How to become an AWS Authorized Instructor

What is an AAI ?

AAI stands for AWS Authorized Instructor. It means that you've been approved by AWS as an official trainer and benefit from their teaching materials. You've proven your pedagogy, your deep knowledge and your capacity to train people to obtain new certifications

What is a champion AAI ?

A champion AAI is an AWS Authorized Instructor owning at least 3 associate level, 1 professional level AWS certification and being recognized to train people to obtain each of them.

What are the requirements to become an AAI ?

Requirements
  • You must find an AWS Training Partner sponsor to onboard the AAI process. 
  • You must own the AWS Solution Architect Associate certification

The AAI onboarding process

First, you will have to go through 2 online courses with text and videos :
  • 1 Instructor enablement about AWS Architecture (Architect Associate level - around 12h)
  • 1 about the Trainer & Certification Messaging (Trainer posture - around 6h)
Once you have reviewed all the sections for each course, you will have to take a quick quizz for each one :
  • Instructor enablement : 45 questions with a passing score of 80%
  • Trainer & Certification Messaging : 10 questions with a passing score of 80%
Finally, if you succeed in all of those steps, you will have to book a date for an ICA (Instructor Candidate Appliance) which is a 3 day enablement with a trainer of trainer. If you succeed, you will become an official AAI.

Unfortunately, since I signed an NDA, I can't tell you more about this ICA but here are some advices :
  • Keep in mind that, as a trainer, you must have a fluid communication
  • Pedagogy is the key when you want to be a trainer
  • As a lot of sessions are now online since COVID-19, be sure to be comfortable with drawing tools, to have a webcam and to interact with students to keep them focused
  • Also, a good trainer brings his experience and examples from the real world
